Supplies Needed to Clean Car Floor Mats

When you’re ready to clean your car’s floor mats, you’ll need these supplies to effectively clean them:

• Rubber Floor Mats: Vacuum, rubber floor mat cleaner, stiff bristle brush, hose or bucket of water, microfiber towel or a place to hang your mats
• Carpet Floor Mats: Vacuum, carpet floor mat cleaner, brush, hose or bucket of water, wet vac if available, or a place to hang your mats

How to Clean Rubber Floor Mats

Follow these steps to clean rubber floor mats:

1. Remove the rubber floor mats from your car prior to cleaning them to avoid damaging your upholstery or dash from water damage
2. Shake the mats to loosen dirt and debris.
3. Rinse the mats with clean water, with a hose or bucket of water
4. Apply a cleanser designed for rubber mats and gently scrub with a stiff bristle brush to eliminate any grime or debris that still remains.
5. Rinse the mats clean.
6. Hang up to dry or dry with a microfiber towel. Before you place the rubber floor mats back into your vehicle, they should be thoroughly dry.

How to Clean Carpeted Floor Mats

Follow these steps to clean carpeted floor mats:

1. Like with the rubber mats, remove the carpeted floor mats out of the vehicle first to avoid any water damage and to make cleaning easier
2. Shake or hit the floor mats against a hard surface to loosen dust and smaller dirt particles.
3. Vacuum to eliminate dirt stuck in the carpet fibers.
4. Use a cleaner designed for carpet floor mats, and apply it to your floor mats. Follow the instructions carefully so that you don’t damage the floor mats as directions can vary for each product
5. Have stains or debris that’s hard to remove? Scrub the mats with the brush.
6. Make sure that the mats are rinsed thoroughly.
7. A wet vac can also be useful if there is still dirt embedded into the mat. This should also help the mats dry quicker.
8. Hang your mats to dry. Once they are completely dry, they can be placed back inside of the vehicle.
